INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE

JOB GOAL: To assist certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individuals or small groups of students; monitor and report student progress. Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of the academic program; other related duties as required.

The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness and in a clean atmosphere. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
The environmental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential responsibilities and functions of the job and are not meant to be all-inclusive. Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions. Exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities. Exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction, and/or operation of equipment. Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times.
EMPLOYMENT: This is a nine-month contract (182 days). Salary is based on the current salary schedule. This contract will be prorated from the starting date for the remaining school calendar.
WORK SCHEDULE: The workday shall be established by the building principal but shall not exceed 7.5 hours per day, excluding 1/2 hour for a duty free lunch, unless the building principal makes other arrangements.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Support Personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Must possess one of the following:
(a) Minimum of an Associate's Degree or
(b) 60 college credits from an accredited college or university, or
(c) An appropriate score on the WorkKeys to meet the required federal standards under Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
- The ability to communicate effectively with students and staff using proper grammar and vocabulary.
- Requires computer skills and capability to learn new software systems.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships, work independently and in team settings.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

- Work in a cooperative manner with students, teachers, staff, supervisors, and the public.
- Work effectively and efficiently under time and productivity standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Support and maintain classroom policies;
- Tutor individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher;
- Assist in the administering and scoring a variety of tests according to student performance and behavior;
- Perform routine clerical duties; operate classroom and office equipment including computers, copy machines, and other equipment;
- Provide support to the teacher by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits, operating audio-visual equipment, operating educational training equipment and distributing and collecting paper and supplies;
- Communicates with teachers and other members of the instructional team regarding assigned students' daily progress for the purpose of assessing students' progress;
- Understands and respects the confidential nature of specific information relating to the students;
- Assumes supervisory role over the students when classroom teacher is out of the room;
- Assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance;
- Confer, as needed, with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs;
- Assists teachers and students in use of computer programs for diagnostic purposes;
- Direct group activities of students assigned; assist in monitoring students as directed;
- Participates in meetings and training for the purpose of learning new skills relevant to working with students;
- Perform any other pertinent assignment to assist in the efficiency and effectiveness of the classroom.
