Job Summary :

The Rollins College Information Technology department is seeking an Instructional Designer to join their team!
  • Support Hybrid and HyFlex Teaching: Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to support and assist with hybrid (blended) and HyFlex (synchronous remote) pedagogies and course design. Foster relationships with faculty to understand their and their students' needs. Provide resources and expertise on hybrid and HyFlex teaching.
  • Support Learning & Professional Development: Create, organize, and conduct workshops, training sessions, seminars, and other events on educational technology tools and best practices for our community. Develop and maintain a library of resources such as tutorials, guides, videos, and infographics for faculty, students, and staff.
  • Foster Inclusive and Accessible Learning Environments: Embrace and embed best practices in accessibility, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and inclusion into all aspects of instructional technology and resource development. Actively promote these standards by advising and employing these principles in the support we provide.
  • Inspire Innovation: Act as a dynamic change agent with passion and aptitude for using technology and demonstrating an understanding of its potential to reshape teaching and learning. Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in instructional design, pedagogy, hybrid learning, and online learning tools and methodologies.
  • Contribute to a Collaborative Team: Actively contribute as a cohesive team member, providing support and working in concert with colleagues within the instructional design & technology team, and the broader IT department. Commit to a culture of shared goals, mutual support, and open communication to enhance team effectiveness and achieve departmental objectives.
  • Provide Training and Technical Support: Provide ongoing technical training, support, and troubleshooting for the college's LMS (Canvas) and other tools like Kaltura, WordPress, Microsoft Office Suite (including Teams), Adobe Creative Cloud, Perusall, etc.
  • Manage Projects: Utilize project management software to plan, coordinate, and execute a range of individual and team-based projects.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in instructional design, particularly in hybrid course development.
  • Experience working in the higher education environment.
  • Classroom teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:


Hybrid/HyFlex Teaching, Instructional Design, & Pedagogy
  • Knowledge of (and ability to apply) Universal Design for Learning and other instructional design theories and pedagogical methods (e.g. ADDIE, Bloom's taxonomy).
  • Ability to locate and understand scholarly research on teaching and learning and then apply and share that knowledge.
Communication & Visual Design
  • Ability to design and create simple, user-friendly, accessible, and visually appealing learning tools and resources.
  • Excel in active listening and problem diagnosis, adeptly interpreting and understanding user issues, even when expressed without technical clarity.
Collaboration
  • Ability to identify, develop, and facilitate engaging, accessible, user-centered, and high-value professional development opportunities for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups and academic disciplines.
  • Ability to both apply a collaborative approach to projects and challenges and make independent judgments/decisions within established guidelines.
Organization & Adaptability
  • Ability to adapt to changes in technologies and assist others in this adaptation
  • Strong project management skills.
Technical Expertise & Tools
  • Familiarity with a wide range of academic technologies, including Learning Management Systems, Generative AI, WordPress, Podcasting and Video tools, and Adobe Creative Cloud apps.
Work Environment:
  • This position works afternoons and evening hours. Flexibility in work schedule, including punctuality and the ability to work extended hours and on weekends.
  • Campus-based position.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and visual strain working on a computer.
