Description

  • Work in collaboration with planning teams (both at district and campus level) to improve the quality of service and instruction for English Learners (ELs) that are in alignment with district policy and initiatives as well as federal and state guidelines
  • Collaborate with content and enrichment programs to provide ELs with equitable academic and linguistic access to the curriculum
  • Provide expertise and technical assistance to campuses in supporting the linguistic and academic achievement of ELs
  • Provide demonstrations for teachers in the use of applicable instructional strategies and support implementation of the district curriculum to assist with instructional improvement
  • Develop support plans for campuses around planning and implementing support for ELs across all disciplines to achieve both campus and district achievement targets
  • Create and conduct professional development for Bilingual/ESL teachers, administrators, and other district stakeholders in alignment with state standards, best practices and instructional strategies for ELLs, as requested by campuses and/or other district stake holders
  • Maintain training calendars, related attendance reports and documentation, and handle logistics of training sessions
  • Keep abreast of current professional research and legislation affecting education programs for ELs
  • Create and recommend supplemental resources to support campus implementation of programs for ELLs
  • Assist in planning and executing extended year and after-school enrichment opportunities for ELs
  • Assist with creating supplemental curriculum products for ELs as assigned
  • Contribute as a constructive and collaborative Bilingual/ESL team member
  • Work required evenings and Saturdays as required for Student Intake Center/Bilingual/ESL events
  • All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate
  • Perform all tasks and duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university; Master's Degree preferred
  • Valid Teacher Certification, Bilingual/ESL Certification
  • Five years of successful teaching experience working with English Learners
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition and campus leadership experience
  • Extensive knowledge of curriculum and instructional resources related to Bilingual/ESL programs
  • Program development, implementation, presentation and training skills required
  • Excellent organizational, oral and written communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skill required to achieve the goals of the position
