Job Summary:

This is a unique opportunity to work in an academic and clinical Adult Orthopedic Sports Medicine Surgery practice. The position will be a full-time exempt (non-hourly) Instructor -Orthopedic Athletic Trainer position in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. The position is not eligible for tenure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtains detailed history and performs physical examinations on assigned patients; assesses and treats acute/chronic medical problems (focusing on the musculoskeletal system) and provides direct patient care to a specified patient population.
  • Write prescriptions for medications, PT, OT, imaging studies, and DME as needed. Complete FMLA and other forms and school notes as needed.
  • Assists in providing pre-op, intra-op and post-op care
  • Assists in the operating room
  • Triage and communicate with potential patients by phone, by Telehealth, and in-person for Hip Preservation related medical care.
  • Coordinates the activities of patient care and support staff within the clinic.
  • Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
  • Writes progress notes on patients' office and hospital charts indicating patient status and treatment procedures performed; maintains other records as required.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
  • Will assist in community outreach events including giving educational talks, organizing, planning, and attending.
  • Help develop written educational materials and treatment protocols for specific conditions and post-operative care.
  • Must become proficient in documentation and use of the current electronic medical record program


Additional Responsibilities:

  • Care coordination for out of town/state/country surgical patients (once scheduled) for pre and post surgical needs, including but not limited to, travel, logistics of staying in town, post-op appointments, physical therapy, equipment (DME), imaging and procedures
  • Direct assist of care coordination for the VIP patients
  • Administrative responsibilities including scheduling and preparing agenda for team meetings, taking meeting notes, and following up on action items.
  • Annual and quarterly meetings with the front range physical therapy hip team to review processes, protocols and unique cases
  • Assist with updating evidence based hip preservation protocols
  • Maintains good working relations and communication with the front desk and physical therapy staff to ensure appropriate scheduling.
  • Daily assistance for miscellaneous needs of each surgeon, as requested by each, to streamline their effectiveness in clinic and O.R. preparation

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Master's Degree or equivalent experience
  • Certification by The Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer
  • Licensure with the State of Colorado as an Athletic Trainer.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in conjunction with orthopedic/sports medicine physicians.
  • Orthopedic Technician Certification (OTC) recommended for surgical assistance in the operating room as needed for hip preservation and adult reconstruction


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of the field as it relates to sports medicine

HIRING RANGE: $75,000 - $85,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
