Job Summary:

We have an exceptional opportunity for an individual to join our team as an Instrument Sterilization Technician - Lead for our cleaning and sterilization lab. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the smooth and efficient operations of our lab, with a focus on infection control and quality standards. By supervising and assisting staff, you will contribute to maintaining a safe and sanitized environment while adhering to established procedures and techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

This position has responsibility for the cleaning and decontamination of all instruments and equipment according to established procedures and techniques; ensuring proper functioning of equipment and cleaning the sanitizing machines and equipment. In addition to the sterile processing functions, this position will build inventory cassettes and instruments and disburse the sterile reusable instruments to the clinical units and provide oversight of the collection of used and disbursed instruments to begin the sterilization process.

Decision Scope:

  • Position decides how and when the work is distributed among other staff
  • Determines the appropriate processes for instrument sterilization based on established guidelines and procedures
  • Makes recommendation for process improvement and performance evaluations of staff


Communications:

  • Interaction with students, faculty or staff on a daily basis to meet the demands of clinical and educational operations. Strong communication skills and problem-solving skills for dealing with a variety of personalities and various levels of stress at times.


Working Schedules:

  • Position may be assigned weekend and/or evening shifts
  • Position may be assigned a 4/10 work week schedule


Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in sterilizing dental and /or medical instruments and equipment, which included at least one year of experience preparing specialized dental instrument setups.


A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification either as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) from the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or as a Sterile Processing and Distribution (SPD) Technician from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
  • Experience working in a centralized sterilization laboratory.
  • Experience in all stages of the sterilization process, including decontamination, preparation and packaging, storage and distribution.
  • Experience sterilizing medical or dental equipment where sterilization duties consist of at least 50% of position's assigned duties.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of all areas in the Dental Reprocessing and Distribution.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail, the ability to troubleshoot and verify the accuracy of work
  • Ability to work independently and be a part of a team
  • Knowledge of current dental technologies and materials

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $49,828 - $60,144.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
