Job Description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Under direction, plans and supervises integrated pest management services for schools and central facilities. Responsible for ensuring compliance with Maryland Department of Agriculture regulations on integrated pest management. Supervises, evaluates and trains integrated pest management technicians and leads team in the implementation of the IPM plan.

CERTIFICATE LICENSE:

Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) pest control applicator certification in Category VI (right-of-way weed), VII-A (general), VII-B (termite), VII-C (bird), VII-D (rodent), VIII (public health), Department of Natural Resources (DNR) wildlife permit. Valid Class C Maryland driver's license or equivalent.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge of environmental and health and sanitation requirements and integrated pest management principles and procedures, including related tools and equipment, pest identification/characteristics, control recommendations and pesticides, and application techniques. Knowledge of biology and toxicology. Ability to plan and effectively supervise a comprehensive integrated pest management program for a large organization. Moderate computer skills required. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills. Ability to lead a team and prioritize multiple tasks. Knowledge of or ability to quickly obtain knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS) of MCPS. Must have the ability to work with students and staff of diverse academic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds with sensitivity and cultural competency. Ability to effectively mediate conflicts among staff members; assist with analyzing problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, implement sustainable practices, and make recommendations in support of the goals of the Division of Sustainability and Compliance, the Department of Facilities Management, and MCPS.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from high school required. Some college courses in a related field or relevant training as approved by the Maryland Department of Agriculture. At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in integrated pest management. Some supervisory experience required. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
