What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the System Analyst 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Application and Data Services (ADS) Division supports Los Alamos National Laboratory's (LANL) enterprise applications and performs software application development support, database development and administration, data analytics and business intelligence, software quality management, and enterprise application consulting. The Business Applications and Data Services Group (ADS-BADS) provides application development, commercial off-the-shelf application implementation, adoption/integration with Software as a Service solutions, data analytics/business intelligence, process automations, and application and infrastructure maintenance services specific to the institution's core business solutions (HR, finance, logistics, etc.).

System Analyst 1 ($69,500 - $110,300)

Working alongside some of the brightest minds, y ou will be involved in the upkeep of various Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and custom applications, the design and development of new applications and standards, providing data analytics and business intelligence solutions to our customer organizations, designing, and developing system integrations and process automations, and ensuring compliance with Laboratory specifications, standards, and security policies. The selected candidate will work as a System Analyst in the Business Applications and Data Services group (ADS-BADS) on the IDA (Integration and Data Architecture) Team supporting development, customization, and maintenance of our integration and data warehouse platforms (primarily Boomi, Operational Data Store (ODS), and Denodo) and will work closely with our Business Intelligence and Reporting teams in the delivery of data solutions for our various laboratory customers. The successful candidate should have a strong desire to learn new technologies and business processes, continuously working towards expertise within your field.

System Analyst 2 ($83,900 - $ 136,600 )

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you will provide mentoring to junior staff members. You will have intermediate knowledge and proficiency in a variety of technologies and platforms, and will provide input on the design, development, and implementation of complex solutions. At this level, you will be expected to work with limited supervision and use independent judgment to determine the course of action to accomplish objectives.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Knowledge and experience working with and utilizing databases, including basic understanding of SQL.
  • Knowledge or experience with integration technologies and platforms.
  • Experience with Data Catalog management.
  • Knowledge of software lifecycle and all its phases, including requirements, design, development, and testing with appropriate documentation.
  • Understanding of data warehouse and reporting.
  • Knowledge and entry-level experience with technical documentation typical of software development, implementation, and maintenance, including but not limited to functional requirements, testing documentation, user guides, etc.
  • Knowledge of software configuration management and software quality assurance methodologies and practices.
  • Entry level knowledge or experience with creating or troubleshooting data views and data solutions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with peers and all levels of external and internal personnel, both technical and non-technical.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.


Additional Job Requirements for System Analyst 2:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
  • Demonstrated experience reading and writing SQL queries and PL/SQL procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience providing customer support including configuring, administering, and debugging technical issues with various IT systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with IT documentation related to a major IT project (including the collection of functional requirements, the development of test plans, or implementation plans).
  • Experience authoring or revising user documentation, such as procedures, process flows, or troubleshooting documentation.
  • Experience in utilizing a programming or scripting language to perform data clean up or automate various tasks.
  • Experience with software quality assurance methodologies and practices.
  • Demonstrated analytical approach to problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated experience and willingness to provide mentorship to junior staff members.


Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Postgraduate degree in related field may serve as years of related experience.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience utilizing tools such as ServiceNow, Jira and/or Confluence.
  • Experience utilizing Scrum or Kanban framework.
  • Experience with developing system integration plans, including consumption and authoring of API's or Web Services.
  • Experience with MicroStrategy in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience with enterprise business areas, such as Project Accounting, General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Payables, Advanced Receivables, Cash Management, Inventory, Purchasing, Human Resources.
  • Demonstrated experience as a technical contributor to an IT implementation or major upgrade project.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to support end-users, negotiate and use proper judgment to resolve conflicts, solve problems, increase efficiency, and improve services and products with minimal management assistance.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position has the potential for remote work. Remote work is defined as working offsite that is greater than 2 hours of the Laboratory location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level).
