Primary Responsibilities

In the roll of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Engineer/Project Manager you will assists senior-level staff in planning, designing, and implementing technology solutions for transportation issues in our Nebraska/Iowa Offices. This role is part of the Advanced Technology for Surface Transportation business class' broader initiative, which primarily focuses on serving government agencies. This position will also be responsible for building and maintaining client relationships and proactively researching transportation technology solutions.

Technical Related Responsibilities

  • Development of ITS architecture, systems engineering analysis, and plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) development for freeway, arterial and transit ITS systems.
  • Provide engineering effort on ITS and traffic management system projects, including Planning, Engineering, Design, Integration, Deployment, Operations and Maintenance, Communications, and overall Management.
  • Assist with the development of practice areas related to ITS program management and oversight, Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O), Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), Transportation Management Centers (TMC), Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS), Managed Lanes, Automated Connected Electric and Shared (ACES) vehicle technologies, and associated performance measures.
  • Develop Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E) design packages, systems engineering analysis, ITS Architectures, and Concept of Operations.
  • Participate in Automated, Connected, Electric, and Shared (ACES) vehicle projects and emerging technology projects nationally.
  • Design of central/field communications, traffic control equipment, communications devices, traffic controller hardware and software, transit signal priority, CCTV cameras, DMS, traffic detectors, and electronic tolling equipment.
  • Develop local transportation program services for HDR and serve as a technical resource nationally for HDR.
  • Design & implement National ITS Standards, Active Traffic Management, communications systems, power distribution networks, and traffic control equipment.


Non-Technical Related Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of Federal USDOT Grant applications for government agencies
  • Establish client relationships and be involved with marketing, contractual, design, and production meetings.
  • Coordinate workload with project managers
  • Implement QA/QC procedures


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering or related field
  • 7+ years of experience related to technology-based projects background
  • PE license
  • Experience in electrical and communication network design is required
  • Familiarity with industry standards (NTCIP, NEMA, IEEE and NEC), and various transportation agencies' ITS standards and specifications is required.
  • Business development and mentoring skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with state DOTs, local agencies, Federal government
  • 10+ years experience with ITS planning, design and implementation
  • Active role in professional organizations
  • Familiarity in Traffic Engineering concepts like signal timing, ATSPMs, adaptive traffic control systems, and traffic responsive systems
  • Practical experience with planning and designing fiber optic networks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in data analytic
