We are currently looking for a Full Time Intensive Care Unit Nurse Educator to join our NLD Inpatient Team team located at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center working 8:00AM-5:00PM - Mo Tu We Th Fr.

Summary:

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Nurse Educator is primarily responsible for meeting the educational needs of the ICU staff through assessing, developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for staff. The ICU Educator promotes nurse competency, continuing education, and leadership development by means of classes, in-services, simulations, etc. and overseeing unit orientation of all new department nursing staff.

Responsibilities:
* Provides and advocates age and culturally appropriate, holistic patient care based upon facility mission statements and as outlined in policies and procedures
* Ensures that staff competency levels are assessed on a regular basis and that they meet a minimum standard for the assigned area
* Performs periodic documentation audits to ensure that all documentation guidelines are followed during patient care, services, and treatment and provides documentation education as needed
* Collaborates with unit managers and quality department on educational needs of staff
* Ensures educational needs are met by incorporating advanced clinical practice, education, consultation, research, and professional/leadership activities in all phases of education including assessing, planning, implementing, communicating, and evaluating educational programs
* Stays abreast of Electronic Health Record, Pyxis and BCMA processes and acts as super-user to staff as needed
* Initiates and completes all aspects of educational programs in a timely manner and maintains personnel educational data
* Works closely with unit managers to coordinate and develop education opportunities for unit staff
* Assist in facilitating chart reviews and monthly reports as indicated
* Provides guidance, support, and constructive feedback to staff as indicated
* Plans, prepares, and maintains available educational materials/resources that are accurate, relevant, and evidence-based for use within the unit
* Assists with hospital and departmental performance improvement activities to measure, assess, and improve the quality of care delivered to patients
* Develops, organizes, and coordinates ongoing clinical education and skills for unit staff
* Directs staff in the orientation of new employees and in other staff developmental programs
* Ensures documentation and maintenance of initial and ongoing competency of all levels of nursing staff including agency and contract staff
* Participates with members of medical staff and administrative staff in planning patient care standards, protocols, policies, and procedures
* Assists staff in evaluating practice and creating strategies for further improvement
* Identifies and evaluates instructional materials in all types of media and formats
* Identifies and recruits internal and external resources for educational activities
* Adjusts content and teaching strategies appropriate to leaner needs and provides educational opportunities that benefit nurses at all stages in their career development
* Develops and provides education and training as needed in the assigned area
* Provides support and assists with educational programs within the unit
* Actively involved in the use of high-fidelity simulation and debriefing for staff training
* Oversees unit compliance with HeartCode and RQI programs and assists staff with HeartCode and/or RQI assignments
* Ensures effective communication with employees regarding new policies and procedures, guidelines, protocol, performance improvement activities, customer satisfaction results, administrative memo/updates, and hospital initiatives
* Actively participates in emergency preparedness processes and activities to ensure staff readiness
* Assists as needed with the development, organization, and coordination of the nursing department onboarding program and makes changes as necessary
* Writes competency statements and related performance criteria
* Develops annual competency-based education with the discretion of the unit manager and nursing learning and development
* Participates in annual competency validation
* Identifies needed core and unit clinical competencies and performs competency evaluation/skills assessments
* Participates in meetings to ensure effective communication with staff, peers, supervisors and management
* Prepares reports as needed or requested

* Bachelors of Nursing

Credentials:

* Unrestricted Oklahoma Registered Nurse License
* Basic Life Support
* Pediatric Advanced Life Support
* Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support

Nonessential:
* Critical Care Registered Nurse Certification (CCRN)

Essential:
* BLS within 1 month of hire
* ACLS/PALS within the first 6 months of hire if not current
