About Our Team
We develop an understanding of potential future warfighter technology needs through modeling and simulation of aerospace mission and vehicle concepts. This is used to identify potential gaps in warfighter capabilities and helps to drive proposals, technology roadmaps, as well as requirements for future systems. Our R&D-based concepts work is built on a foundation of specialized multidisciplinary tools and skills. Our current work includes concept development for mission and engagement modeling of various hypersonic systems, trajectory optimization, contested guidance-navigation-control, kill chains, etc. for missiles air and space.

Security Clearance
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
We are seeking a Summer - R&D Graduate Intern to join our dynamic team.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Work with engineers to perform R&D of conceptual aerospace systems or missions to meet national security needs.
- Develop and run scenarios in engagement simulations to inform on performance of new technologies and ideas.
- Develop and run multi-disciplinary optimization workflows, possibly under uncertainty, to find designs and flight trajectories to fit specific missions.
- Present and document results of simulations and trade-studies to inform on relevant solution spaces.

Qualifications We Require
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
- Earned bachelor's degree
- Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- Ability to secure and maintatin a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire
- Exposure to multidisciplinary design process
- Exposure to R&D of aerospace systems
- Modeling and Simulation experience, such as AFSIM or a similar tool
- Knowledge of Python, Matlab, or other scientific programming language
- Knowledge of optimization mathematics and methods
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE-L Clearance
