About Our Team
The Power Sources Technology Group's Research and Development Department develops primary and rechargeable lithium batteries, hybrid power sources, and double layer capacitors for our customers in the DOE, the military, industry, and other Sandia organizations. The department endeavors to build on a leadership position in developing lithium batteries for energy and defense applications. In collaboration with others, we develop new power source concepts and materials leading to component development for specific applications. Our battery safety research and abuse testing laboratories are state-of-the-art and help us understand battery failures and lead our engineering efforts to produce abuse tolerant systems for nuclear weapons and other defense and consumer applications that include electric and hybrid-electric vehicles. To accomplish these missions, department personnel perform applied research, engineering design, hardware development, cell prototyping and fabrication, safety evaluation, and testing. Our personnel also partner with industrial battery manufacturers and other government agencies to develop prototype and final battery hardware.

Security Clearance
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

- Assist with conducting experiments utilizing next generation energy storage materials.
- Organize and collect data to help make conclusions that will inform our research programs.
- Assist with operations of our laboratories, including planning, safety, and maintenance.
- Work in a collaborative research team to grow in your knowledge of batteries, electrochemistry, and scientific research.

Qualifications We Require
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
- Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
- Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- U.S. citizenship
Qualifications We Desire
- Hands-on laboratory experience (coursework or research/employment).
- Experience working in hazardous laboratory operations and ES&H processes to ensure safe conditions.
- Demonstrated strong problem solving skills especially with equipment troubleshooting.
