Responsibilities

Perform the detailed duties involved with Pain Management Clinic Intake Coordinators duties, Patient Access duties including but not limited to: Patient check in, order entry, Authorization, Pre-determination of payment, assisting patients with financial assistance, scheduling, pre-registration, clerical processing for all Outpatients. Assist Pain Management staff in the

delivery of exceptional, compassionate, and personalized care.

  • Schedule and Register all Pain Management outpatients either in person or by phone interview.
  • Accurately schedule, pre register and financially clear all scheduled patients using the HIS system.
  • Answer the telephone and respond or direct the call to the appropriate party.
  • Promote and maintain excellent communication with all physicians, hospital departments, and insurance agencies.
  • Give appropriate instructions and prep to patients.
  • Obtain all appropriate signatures and documentation necessary for Allegan General Hospital and all Governing bodies.
  • Obtain records and communicate authorization for services working on behalf of a physician when requested to do so.
  • Enter orders electronically when appropriate.
  • Conduct copay and deductible determinations and collect copay and deductible amounts when appropriate; as well as record the amount making receipt in current HIS system.
  • Perform follow up duties as needed.
  • Compile with all regulatory, federal, state, and local laws, and the organization's compliance plan, HIPAA and code of ethics.
  • Compile with organizational policies and procedures, including but not limited to; Behavioral Standards, fire, patient and employee safety, risk and infection control.
  • Participate in a regular audit process for accuracy.
  • Always seek out work that needs to be done and report all free time to manager.
  • Honor HIPAA privacy and confidentiality for all patients, employees, physicians and hospital related privacy issues.
  • Accurately, promptly, and professionally perform duties as Department Manager assigns including but not limited to mentoring, special projects, participation in process improvement groups, on and off site training and education.
  • Maintain current knowledge base in the areas of Pain Management Clinic processes, Pre-Registration, Authorization of services and related prescription medications and Scheduling.
  • Maintain a positive and friendly work environment.
  • Present a positive, professional image and work standard.

Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma, or GED equivalent, required.


Work Experience:

  • 3 years of experience working in direct contact with the public preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in patient scheduling preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in medical reception preferred.
  • Medical terminology experience preferred.
