Opportunities are available at many of our nine hospitals across eastern North Carolina. Essential job functions include:
  • Initiating respiratory care, evaluating and monitoring patients' responses to care, and modifying the prescribed therapy to achieve the desired objectives
  • Providing therapeutic interventions with oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, airway care, lung expansion and more
  • Updating care plans at least once per shift
  • Assessing information from respiratory parameter studies, peak flow measurements, pulse oximetry monitoring, cardiac output monitoring, and more
  • Participating in Inservice Education and obtaining 24 education contact hours per year


Position Summary

Under the Clinical Supervision of the Medical Director of Respiratory Care and the overall supervision of the Manager, Assistant Manager and Respiratory Care Supervisor the Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP), II functions in a safe, expedient, and cost-effective manner in providing, responding to patient needs and documenting respiratory care and services provided. The Respiratory Care Practitioner II is involved in the Clinical Ladder program which is a voluntary promotion system that recognizes health care professionals who demonstrate advanced knowledge, critical thinking skills, and professional development.

Minimum Requirements
  • Associate Degree or higher in an approved COARC program for Respiratory Care.
  • Active licensure with the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board upon hire and maintained yearly.
  • 3 or more years of Respiratory Care Practitioner experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association Certification.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
  • Advanced Life Support Certification (ACLS).
  • National Board for Respiratory Care Neonatal/Pediatric Specialty (NBRC NPS) preferred.
  • ECU Health Community Hospital positions require BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP.
  • ECU Health Children's Hospital positions require Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and completion of the NBRC NPS certification; with ACLS as optional.

Other Information

Compensation package
  • Base pay of up to $75 per hour for all travel respiratory care practitioner positions
  • 1.5x base hourly rate for overtime (over 40 hours), call-back and holidays

Additional position details
  • 13-week assignments with option to extend at the discretion of manager
  • Travel Staffing Program positions are not eligible for health benefits, shift or weekend differentials, incentive pay, PTO or float pool differentials
  • Travel team members are expected to:
    • Work alternate shifts as required
    • Adhere to required attendance of unit staff meetings, completion of e-inform modules, and completion of required organizational continuing education
    • Use the scheduling system to manage their schedule, including non-duty/time-off requests
    • Not be currently employed by ECU Health or be separated for 92 days, having left in good standing
  • Organizational policies will be applicable to internal travel team members, notwithstanding Travel Staffing Program specifications included within each assignment acknowledgement
