Internship, Frontend Engineer, Cell Manufacturing Software (Winter/Spring 2025)

Austin, Texas

Employer: Tesla Motors
Industry: Autopilot
Salary: Competitive
Job type: Full-Time

About the Team
Tesla is re-thinking how batteries are made from the ground up. We're designing new factories, new equipment, new processes, and new software to rapidly scale battery manufacturing, globally. The primary bottleneck to Tesla's future expansion (and the transition to sustainable transport and energy storage) is our ability to produce and procure batteries - that's why we're innovating in-house, with our collection of world-class engineers, to redefine the industry. Software, data, and automation all play a huge part in this strategy.
Tesla is known to build software from scratch with a nimble and high performing team to meet the specific needs of rapid battery manufacturing. This software tracks every component of the cell manufacturing process and acts as the brain of the entire cell factory. It's key to ensuring batteries are made safely end-to-end and for understanding how to improve processes.
In this role you will have the opportunity to contribute to our vision by helping build and refine web applications that improve workflows and efficiency. You'll collaborate closely with experienced engineers to create intuitive tools that support the production of cutting-edge battery technology. This internship offers a hands-on learning experience where your work will have a real impact on Tesla's innovative approach to battery production.

Responsibilities
  • You'll work directly with our team of high performing software engineers and will get to explore Tesla cell factories to gain context that is necessary to build the software features
  • Scope, build and ship critical features directly impact Tesla's ability to make battery cells
  • Interface with manufacturing, controls, process and quality engineers to understand feature requests and then map out feature plans with product managers
  • Write code that is reliable and well tested
  • Develop user interfaces that streamline existing processes and allow greater visibility into the battery production process

Requirements
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field of study with a graduation date between 2025-2026
  • Ability to relocate and work on site in Austin, TX
  • Experience with React and TypeScript
  • Familiarity with Go, Docker, Kubernetes, and GraphQL
  • Ability to quickly grok codebases
  • Strong programming fundamentals
