Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus four (4) years of experience in a warehouse/inventory control atmosphere or material handling, two (2) years of which includes experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Education may substitute for experience up to the maximum of two (2) years.



Licenses or Certifications:
  • Valid Texas Class C Drivers License, if required for the position
  • If required for position, legally mandated training must be completed within 1 year of employment.

Austin Energy is seeking an Inventory Control Supervisor I responsible for overseeing and coordinating daily Warehouse activities such as receiving and storing goods, managing inventory control, ensuring the delivery of goods and supervising the staff. The supervisor is expected to lead the efforts to improve Warehouse inventory accuracy via process improvements. They must be able to motivate staff by resolving issues and making sound decisions, along with assisting with daily duties and responsibilities.

Additionally, analytical skills will strongly contribute to providing deep insight into patterns, trends, and cost reduction potential as the utility continues its rapid growth.

Lastly, this position will direct and coordinate supply chain functions through strategy, resource optimization, and sourcing efficiencies.

Driving Requirement:

This position requires a Valid Texas Class "C" Drivers License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


  • Monitors and ensures section operates efficiently within appropriated budget. schedules expenditures; analyzes variances, initiates corrective actions and assists with procurement activities.
  • Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees and following up on work results.
  • Controls inventory levels by reviewing data recorded in tracking system, retrieving data, designing reports and directing corrective actions to manage the inventory levels.
  • Reconciles physical inventory to inventory control records and addresses and resolves variances.
  • Provides support to departmental staff by researching and resolving discrepancies, recommending actions to manage inventory levels, and disbursement of inventory.
  • Ensures warehouse safety and security by maintaining compliance with guidelines, reporting discrepancies, and recommending corrective action.


  • Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
    • Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling and recommendation for dismissal.
