As a Software Engineer on the Live Telepresence team, you will be working on the cutting edge of Virtual and Augmented Reality experiences. With our team, you will explore, prototype, and build experiences that define the future of how people interact through immersive telepresence with Codec Avatars. You will work closely with engineers, scientists, and research product managers to build and scale an internal XR calling service and solve user and researcher challenges that are unique, complex, and nuanced. We are looking for a developer with experience in user interfaces, infrastructure, and/or tools supporting applications on the iPhone or iPad using the iOS SDK.

iOS developer - Live Telepresence with Codec Avatars Responsibilities


  • Work closely with our product and design teams to build new and innovative application experiences for the iOS platform

  • Implement custom native user interfaces using the latest iOS programming techniques

  • Build reusable iOS software components for interfacing with our back-end platforms

  • Analyze and optimize UI and infrastructure application code for quality, efficiency, and performance

  • Complete medium to large features (each with many tasks) independently without guidance

  • Work with research scientists and engineers to understand what data sets are needed to address technology challenges and how to provide them in a way that is accessible to their workflows.

  • Write clean readable code, debug complex problems that span systems, prioritize ruthlessly and work efficiently.

  • Learn constantly, educate others, dive into new areas with unfamiliar technologies, and embrace the ambiguity of AR/VR problem solving.

  • Quickly solve issues with your cross-functional leads

  • Clearly articulate design decisions to a vast set of internal stakeholders

  • Thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments


Minimum Qualifications


  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.

  • 2+ years of object-oriented software development experience

  • 1+ years experience building complex applications for the iPhone or iPad using Objective-C/C++/Swift with the iOS SDK and other frameworks

  • Experience building maintainable and testable code bases, including API design and unit testing techniques

  • Experience with multithreading programming and mobile memory management

  • Experience working independently and in highly dynamic environments.

  • Experience developing performant software and systems.

  • Experience with software development practices such as source control, code reviews, unit testing, debugging and profiling


Preferred Qualifications


  • Proven track record of shipping software

  • Proficiency with React

  • Experience working in a research environment

  • Experience developing software for Machine Learning, Computer Graphics, Computer Vision, or Robotics applications
