Job Summary

IR/Cath Lab RN Supervisor will work directly with the Director of Interventional Services in development of the nursing staff including education, department competencies, evaluation, performance correction, patient safety and customer service related issues. IR/Cath Lab RN Supervisor will assist nursing and care staff in reaching their full potential at each stage of their professional development. The focus will be on developing and enhancing clinical knowledge, technical skills, clinical decision making skills, professional performance standards and inter-personal skills that nursing and care staff use to provide quality services

IR/Cath Lab RN Supervisor working in the Interventional Services Department are responsible for ensuring that the operation of the unit flows smoothly and provides a standardized approach to the care of patients. IR/Cath Lab RN Supervisor will maintain clinical competence, technical skill, and demonstrate critical decision making skills. IR/Cath Lab RN Supervisor will evaluate, treat and provide postoperative care to both cardiac and Interventional Radiology patients. IR/Cath Lab RN Supervisor will monitor the patient's vital signs, administer medications; update the patients chart within the Electronic Health Record system; provide education and instruction to patients and their families and ensure safety, knowledge and instruction regarding all clinical procedures performed in the Interventional Services Department. IR/Cath Lab RN Supervisor will assist physicians with patient assessments; pre-procedure, intra-procedure and post procedure as needed. This position is responsible for providing care to patients with age-related physiological, emotional and cognitive needs of the following age groups: pediatric, adult and geriatric.

Duties

Professional Support/Supervision:

  • Provide leadership in clinical practice and act as a resource and role model for clinical practice
  • Provide leadership, supervision and support to nursing and care staff in the provision of clinical/care support services in a professional manner
  • Develop and maintain good collaborative working relationships and channels of communication with members of the nursing and care staff teams including all ancillary departments
  • Monitor, evaluate, and correct staff performance relating to care/clinical practice and assist the Director of Interventional Services in raising the standards of practice.
  • Assist in coordinating case planning to ensure that all staff and required resources for cases are available
  • Attend management and other meetings as required by Oroville Hospital
  • Attend management development or training events organized or specified by Oroville Hospital
  • Demonstrates leadership in problem solving
  • Keep up to date with current developments in nursing practice and education
  • Ensure adherence to clinical policies and patient care guidelines at Oroville Hospital
  • Be on call as dictated by the needs of the Interventional Services Department
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties which may be assigned to you by the Director of Imaging
Clinical Support
  • Responsible for daily managerial functions of the Interventional Services Department in collaboration with Director and/or other Clinical Supervisors
  • Promotes positive interpersonal relationships amongst staff
  • Assists, Collaborates and Communicates with all team members
  • May assist physicians in performing procedures
  • Orders diagnostic tests according to physician instructions
  • Prepares patients for procedures within the Interventional Services Department
  • Verifies or obtains consents for procedures
  • Monitors patient vital signs during all procedures (heart rhythm, oxygenation, blood pressure, level of consciousness and level of pain)
  • Administers medication according to physician instructions before, during and after cardiac procedures
  • Assesses and manages pain of the patient pre, intra and post procedure
  • Uses nursing standards and protocols for treatment in critical situations
  • Documents patient information in the Electronic Health Record and Hemodynamic Monitoring system
  • Works with Physicians and staff to organize, maintain and efficiently utilize supplies and equipment to prevent wastage and provide all necessary instruments and equipment
  • Assists with disposal of waste materials and dirty linen
  • May assist in the development and revision of policies and procedures to ensure continuous process improvement
  • Trains and orients new employees
  • Demonstration of ongoing clinical competency as defined by the facility
  • Ensures regulatory compliance and compliance with patient safety guidelines
  • Complies with HIPAA policies and standards in regards to patient confidentiality
  • Participates in and promotes engagement action plans
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Assists in other areas of the department as requested
