Job Duties

Under the general supervision of the IT Projects Manager, this position provides IT support at various levels, including front-line technical support of software and hardware; testing, installation and configuration of new and updated software and hardware; maintenance and support of the Fairfax County GDC website and other modes of public communication; assisting with the planning and implementation of new technology initiatives; and performance of related work as assigned by management.

All employees receive a 15% county salary supplement in addition to the state salary.

The IT Support and Project Specialist backs up and assists the IT Projects Manager for a large, high-volume, limited jurisdiction state court. This position assists GDC employees with the routine use of data applications and case management systems; performs security and Active Directory support on networked systems; troubleshoots network, application, and peripheral equipment problems; provides technology support in courtrooms; assists with loading and testing computer software and management of GDC IT inventory; supports members of the public with certain applications as appropriate; and supports all IT administrative duties of the Fairfax County GDC website and other modes of public communication. This position also supports the design, development, testing, and implementation of new and upgraded Fairfax County, Commonwealth, and third-party applications which improve automation, digitization, and case management in the court.

Other duties include providing new users with case management and security protocol training; providing help desk support for the court's users and directing appropriate inquiries to the Fairfax County Court Technology Office; notifying users of unanticipated computer and application down time; performing security checks and maintenance as needed; and assisting public with applications on the public terminals. This position also assists the IT Project Manager and other supervisors with general court-related projects. May be required to work during non-traditional business hours on occasion.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education, experience, certification, and/or training equivalent to the following: graduation from an accredited two-year college with an associate's degree in IT or related field (degree preferred, not required) and/or two years of related professional work experience in such areas as business, court, or public administration. Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to perform personal computer and network troubleshooting, both on software and hardware. Proficiency in the latest Microsoft Windows operating systems and PC applications, such as Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint required. Demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team.

• Website management using a Content Management System (CMS)
