The Department of Information Technology Services at the University of Tennessee at Martin is currently accepting applications for an IT Manager position.
Job Dutie
Provide leadership for the telecommunications group, including 5 full-time employees and 2 student employees. This position reports to the Director of IT Infrastructure.
• Manages operations and budget of UTM Telecommunications area of Information Technology Services; including staff supervision and development, leadership, and project prioritization.
• Accountable for scheduling and monitoring work of others guided by objectives and expected outcomes with limited direction.
• Works on complex issues requiring in-depth analysis of variable factors.
• Analyzes and interprets data, identifies areas of concern, and recognizes and resolves problems through the use of policies and procedures.
• Implements long-range strategic initiatives.
• Develops and implements unit procedures.
• Identifies, evaluates, supports, and solves complex issues related to area of expertise.
• Makes decisions independently.
• Provides in-depth industry knowledge to identify strategic areas of development.
• Research and train on new technologies and management procedures as appropriate.
• Performs advanced analysis and problem-solving to complete specific assignments.
• Plans and coordinates projects as assigned.
• Provide guidance to colleagues and users.
• May serve as project lead on any size project.
• Performs other related duties as required.
This group's responsibilities include:
• Responsibility for internet connectivity, wired and wireless data networks, fiber optic, and copper cable plant.
• Responsibility for the security camera system.
• Responsibility for the technical portions of the telephone system including providing dial tone to all faculty and staff and residences, configuration and maintenance of the telephone switch and its related components as well as telephones.
• Responsibility for the Cable TV system which consists of the head end and distribution systems.
• Provides technical support to students, faculty and staff for all 3 of these areas.
Qualifications:
Qualification
Minimum Qualification
• Bachelor's degree and five years of experience. Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
• Experience installing and terminating inside and outside telecommunications plants, including Coax, twisted pair, and fiber optic cable, using accepted industry standards.
• Experience with customer service spanning the time from job proposal until job completion.
• Experience supervising a work group.
• Experience building MDF and IDF locations and installing enterprise-level network equipment.
• Experience working with telecommunications contractors and vendors as well as general contractors.
Preferred Qualification
• Experience with cable TV system
• Experience with security surveillance system
• Experience with telephone systems including VOIP
• Experience with network administration
• Experience with wireless network administration
• Experience with BGP
