JOB DESCRIPTION:

Bilingual Paraprofessionals work at ESL sites with a large number of non-English-speaking students and parents. In addition to helping school personnel communicate with parents and students, paraprofessionals tutor students and improve family engagement at those sites, by communicating with families in a language they can understand.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Understands and assists in upholding school rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in the efficient and effective operation of the school as directed by the Principal.
  • Respects the confidentiality of information pertaining to students and staff.
  • Assists in fostering positive student attitudes.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state & federal rules & regulations.
  • Engages in professional growth & demonstrates professional ethics & leadership.
  • Reports for duty at least 15 minutes before the opening of school and remains at least 10 minutes after close of school unless special contract requires other hours.
  • Plans regularly with assigned teacher.
  • Tutors individuals and groups of students as assigned.
  • Assists the teacher in student testing activities as assigned.
  • Maintains charts and records of students' performances and accomplishments as assigned.
  • Assists the teacher in preparing materials necessary for positive learning environment.
  • Performs clerical tasks including inventory, filing and typing, operates audiovisual equipment, and cares for equipment and materials.
  • Assists teacher with basic physical needs of students.
  • Takes all the necessary precautions to provide for the study and welfare of students.
  • Attends and participates in individual, school and system professional development activities.
  • Maintains a cooperative working relationship with school staff, parents, and community.
  • Performs other necessary duties during school hours, assigned by the principal, to ensure the safe and effective operation of the school.
  • Ensures proper communication in Spanish and English between parents and school.
  • Promotes good public relations for the school system with the general public.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all school-related business.
  • Remains familiar with and follows Board of Education policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bilingual in both and English and Spanish.
  • Must have completed two (2) full years of credit hours of college or earned an Associate's degree.
  • Aptitude and skills for the work to be performed.
