Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

Summary

Reporting to the Head of Project Management Office, this position is responsible for working closely with a team of engineers involved in the product development and lifecycle of scientific instrumentation and accessories, and the improvement of legacy products. This position will also provide hands-on technical support for product development to include design, engineering, essential prototyping, testing, design review, documentation, and task management.

Product Design and Engineering

  • Plan, conceptualize, and create mechanical designs for new products and improvement of existent products.
  • Using computer software, generate solid models, 2D drawings, assembly drawings, procedures, specifications, and BOMs.
  • Perform design reviews on a regular basis.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with vendors for fabrication and open innovation. Identify, create, and manage relationships with key vendors, and internal and external customers.
  • Develop testing processes, and perform testing and validation of new designs to ensure fit, form, functionality, serviceability, and manufacturability.
  • Provide hands-on technical participation in all phases of product realization including prototypes building, training colleagues, essential modification of parts, and product transfer process to off-site locations through short-term travel.
  • Provide support at all stages of the active product lifecycle including Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Change, Field Service, and Product Discontinuation.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams on a daily basis to research and analyze new ideas for products, execute product development, and continue product improvements.
  • Communicate actively and clearly with the team to ensure project timeline met and project stays within budget and project priority.


Research and Project Management

  • Perform engineering calculations to support design work. Conduct basic theoretical analysis for risk assessment and product feasibility.
  • Investigate new technologies and concepts, as defined by FMC and Steering Committee, for future product improvements or development.
  • Ability to explore and deepen knowledge base on subject matter and related expertise including manufacturing methodologies, optics and electronics.
  • Handle fast-paced design and prototype cycles.
  • Follow the guideline of PLM to provide technical input, perform detailed documentation to track project development and design processes.
  • Drive projects to completion with agreed performance, deliverables, and cost targets.


Quality

  • Design and develop process and fixtures to facilitate the manufacturing of quality products.
  • Evaluate the on-going quality of products and processes to provide feedback or improvements.
  • Define inspection criteria and standards as needed.
  • Design for manufacturability and modularity under the processes and procedures set in place and accordance to ISO 9001:2000 and ATEX Annex VII (ATEX 94/9/EC, 13980).
  • Consistently maintain a high level of attention to detail and documentation to ensure ISO 9001:2000 and ATEX Annex VII (ATEX 94/9/EC, 13980) compliance at all times.
  • Other duties may be assigned.


What You Need to Succeed

Education, Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred or other related technical fields
  • Experience in an instrument company is a plus
  • Experience with the design and development of new products
  • Knowledge and dexterity of CAD and Solid Modeling programs
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Chemistry and physics background a plus
  • Experience with Photonics, Electronics, or Optical Systems a plus
  • SAP knowledge preferred
