The Department of Biomedical Engineering , The Saucerman Laboratory at The University of Virginia is seeking candidates for Lab and Research Technician 2 to join our team. This role involves supporting complex biological research focused on cardiac cells and heart failure.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
This position will remain open until filled. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. A completed pre-employment health screen is required for this position prior to employment.

Anticipated Hiring Range:
$34,000- $39,000 plus $1,000 sign-on bonus, based on education and experience.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Conduct experiments involving cardiac cells, including cell culture, biochemical assays, and microscopy.
- Manage laboratory supplies and equipment, ensuring all are in good working order.
- Analyze data using specialized statistical software and compile results for publication.
- Assist with the care and management of small lab animals, including performing specific surgical procedures.
- Train and supervise students or volunteers, providing guidance on lab methods and safety.
- Support the research team in developing new experimental strategies and techniques.
- Coordinate with clinical and research staff on a variety of technical duties.
- Maintain detailed records of experiments and results.
- Education: Associate's degree
- Experience: At least 2 years of lab experience which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience.
- Knowledge of fundamentals of biochemistry, and cell biology.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to work independently, with moderate supervision.
- Programming languages including MATLAB
- Ability to perform immunofluorescence microscopy
- Knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques
- Knowledge of laboratory ordering and regulatory systems.
- Microsoft Office Knowledge
