Lab and Research Technician 2, Biomedical Engineering

The Department of Biomedical Engineering , The Saucerman Laboratory at The University of Virginia is seeking candidates for Lab and Research Technician 2 to join our team. This role involves supporting complex biological research focused on cardiac cells and heart failure.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Conduct experiments involving cardiac cells, including cell culture, biochemical assays, and microscopy.
  
• Manage laboratory supplies and equipment, ensuring all are in good working order.
  
• Analyze data using specialized statistical software and compile results for publication.
  
• Assist with the care and management of small lab animals, including performing specific surgical procedures.
  
• Train and supervise students or volunteers, providing guidance on lab methods and safety.
  
• Support the research team in developing new experimental strategies and techniques.
  
• Coordinate with clinical and research staff on a variety of technical duties.
  
• Maintain detailed records of experiments and results.
  

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: Associate's degree
  
• Experience: At least 2 years of lab experience which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience.
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of fundamentals of biochemistry, and cell biology.
  
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  
• Ability to work independently, with moderate supervision.
  
• Programming languages including MATLAB
  
• Ability to perform immunofluorescence microscopy
  
• Knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques
  
• Knowledge of laboratory ordering and regulatory systems.
  
• Microsoft Office Knowledge

Anticipated Hiring Range:

$34,000- $39,000 plus $1,000 sign-on bonus, based on education and experience.
