Description

Systemic Bio is a 3D Systems subsidiary based in Houston, TX, focused on the development of human vascularized organ and disease models to be used for drug discovery and development. Founded in August 2022 with a $15M seed investment from its parent company, Systemic Bio is using its proprietary bioprinting and organ-on-a-chip technology to accelerate drug development timelines, increase clinical trial success rates, and eventually put an end to animal testing.

We are seeking a versatile and detail-oriented intern to fill the dual role of Lab Operations Assistant & Purchaser. This position is a unique opportunity for someone who can ensure a seamless balance of responsibility, communication, and reliability for efficient Lab Operations. The procurement process will require constant follow-up and follow-through with both internal team members and external distributors and sales associates. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring timely acquisition of necessary supplies and equipment from purchasing to receiving. This position requires a proactive individual with excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic laboratory and office environment.

Responsibilities:

Ø Procurement:

• Manage the end-to-end procurement process for laboratory supplies, chemicals, and equipment.

• Sourcing alternative items or supplies based on stock and availability.

• Create and maintain relationships with vendors to ensure timely deliveries.

Ø Safety Compliance:

• Monitor and enforce laboratory safety protocols and procedures.

• Recognize and communicate potential hazards promptly.

Ø Ordering and Inventory:

• Assist Manager to maintain organized and up-to-date inventory records of laboratory supplies.

• Place and track orders to ensure an adequate supply of consumables and reagents.

• Implement systems to optimize stock levels and prevent shortages.

Ø Documentation and Record-keeping:

• Keep accurate records of procurement transactions and expenses.

Ø Facility Maintenance:

• Ensure cleanliness and organization of laboratory spaces.

• Arrange for proper waste disposal in compliance with environmental regulations.

Ø Equipment Management:

• Assist Manager with detailed record keeping of maintenance, service history, calibration, and inventory of laboratory equipment.

• Assist Manager to communicate to vendors for equipment repairs, replacements, and upgrades.

• Maintain accurate records of equipment inventory and service history.

Ø Collaboration and Communication:

• Liaise with research staff, scientists, and other team members to understand their operational needs.

• Collaborate with administrative staff to streamline workflows and improve efficiency.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Previous experience in procurement.

Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Proficient in using Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
