Posting Summary

To provide senior-level technical assistance and perform routine laboratory activities for a pulmonary immunology research laboratory in the Department of Medicine. Maintain the laboratory's mouse colony (including weaning, genotyping, extracting DNA , devising breeding schemes, and maintaining records). Process primary human blood samples for ongoing studies, as well as routine laboratory housekeeping activities. Maintain three IACUC protocols, two IRB protocols, and IBC compliance. Reports to PI.

Provide oversight and management of scientific research projects designed to understand molecular mechanisms of lung responsiveness to allergens, pathogens, pollutants, particles, and gasses. Exercise judgment in prioritizing work to meet the objectives and deadlines associated with generating data for grant renewals, grant proposals, and submission or revision of manuscripts. Provide high-level technical expertise in the design, performance, and troubleshooting of complex laboratory experiments. Analyze, interpret, and manage experimental data. Collaborate with the laboratory's Principal Investigator (PI) in developing projects for laboratory personnel. Provide functional supervision and training of laboratory personnel. Exercise judgment in managing the laboratory's mouse breeding colony. Maintain compliance with regulatory agencies for the laboratory, including personnel lab safety, chemical safety, biosafety, IACUC , and IBC . Develop and write grant proposals as an independent investigator and in collaboration with the PI. Serve as a resource for other researchers/faculty for experimental design, evaluating research methodologies, and interpreting data. Work independently with minimal supervision from the PI.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Bachelor's degree in a related field and four to five years related laboratory research experience required. Experience with molecular biology and cell culture techniques. Knowledge of immunology, physiology, and metabolism. Proficiency with the procedures required for successfully conducting the protocols described in the "Responsibilities" section, including experience with human blood processing for the generation, culture, and preservation of leukocytes. Experience with quantitative RT- PCR , ELISAs, Bio-Plex, flow cytometry, and database management. Knowledge of statistics, as applied to biomedical research. Experience working with mice (including formulation of custom diets, anesthesia, analgesia, administration of substances, euthanasia, tissue harvest), managing multiple genetically modified mouse colonies, and genotyping. Proficient with spreadsheet and database applications. Effective writing and organizational skills.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GraphPad Prism, BioPlex Manager, UVM Click, VOS , and RedCap.

Anticipated Pay Range

$25/hr to $28.20/hr
