Center for Alzheimer's and Neurodegenerative Diseases

The Center for Alzheimer's and Neurodegenerative Diseases (CAND) was created in 2014 to develop mechanism-based approaches to diagnose and treat Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. The CAND philosophy has been to recruit a diverse and collaborative group of scientists, all focused on the primary mission. This includes 6 primary and 5 affiliated faculty members whose interests include machine learning, molecular dynamic modeling, structural biology and biophysics, biochemistry, cell biology, mouse models, gene therapy, neuropathology, and advanced imaging and intervention using high intensity focused ultrasound.

Job Summary

The Saelices Laboratory is looking for a Lab Technical Assistant I. The Saelices Lab studies neurological and systemic disorders caused by amyloid deposition. We seek to understand the structural basis and the biology of amyloid formation and its precursors, and to develop clinical tools for early detection and inhibition of amyloids.

Experience and Education

High school graduation or GED equivalent, and one year experience in laboratory work as Laboratory Technical Assistant I or equivalent.

Lab Duties
  • Place orders
  • Basic financial check-ups
  • Lab organization
  • Lab inventories
  • Work with samples/mice databases
  • Other activities to support lab research
Job Duties
  • Prepares laboratory specimens.
  • Assembles and operates standard laboratory equipment.
  • Collects and records data which may involve arithmetic computations.
  • Prepares standard reagents and culture media.
  • Examines experimentally infected laboratory animals to detect and record symptoms associated with variety of animal diseases.
  • Draws blood from animals by cardiac puncture.
  • Prepares animals for surgery or intravenous injection.
  • Prepares anesthesia agents and induces anesthesia in animals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
