The Beirne B. Carter Center Immunology Research (CIC) is currently seeking a Laboratory Technician 2 to become a participating member of the Brown Lab. The incumbent will participate in research and requires an understanding of research techniques. Duties include participating in research experiments involving the characterization of NK cells, myeloid cells and signaling pathways in mouse models of virus-induced inflammatory diseases. Experimental methods include molecular biology, handling mice, small tissue dissection, flow cytometry, cell culture and transfection, Western blotting, genotyping, and real-time PCR.

The successful candidate will work with students, post-docs, and other members of the lab to assist in conducting all aspects of experiments. The position requires coordinating research projects and logistics with other lab members; compliance with University, Federal, and State policies and procedures; and consulting with Dr. Brown regularly.

Minimum Requirements:

Lab Tech 2

Education: Associate's degree.

Experience: At least 2 years of lab experience, which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree may substitute for required experience. 4 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.

Lab Specialist

Education: Bachelor's degree.

Experience: At least 3 years of lab experience, which may include student experience. Master's degree may substitute for required experience. 6 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.

The individual should be self-guided and creative in seeking possible solutions to experimental/design challenges at hand and have strong communication skills. Strong experience with molecular biology and/or flow cytometry is an advantage.
