Under close supervision, the laboratory assistant will work on a daily basis and report to the Division Administrative Assistant and to the Division Lab Safety and Management Officer, and indirectly to our principal investigators. The laboratory assistant will assume the responsibility for the daily execution of collecting and cleaning glassware for all Division labs, on Hale 6 and Hale 7. In addition, the laboratory assistant will be placing core orders to keep the supply room stocked and constantly keeping track of the inventory while following our Division order system. And assisting the Division laboratories with general lab assistant responsibilities as needed.

  1. Collects soiled glassware and distributes clean glassware.
  2. Washes glassware and other utensils by hand, or in the glassware washers, dries the items in the glassware dryer, or sterilizes them in the autoclave following established procedures.
  3. Prepares and sterilizes culture media.
  4. Prepares biohazard containers to be filled and when filled, prepares them according to regulations for disposal.
  5. Stocks the tissue culture room with supplies and maintains the hemocytometer working area clean and orderly.
  6. Performs other related cleaning duties to keep work areas and instrument rooms clean and orderly, including transferring filled biohazard bags as well as sharps and glass containers from labs.
  7. Ordering of consumables/lab materials (tips, etc.) and maintaining an up-to-date inventory to the list of duties
  8. Assists Division with general administrative items like sharing in mail pickup.
    • Disposing of empty printer cartridges in proper receptacles
  9. Fill in Eppendorf tip boxes, autoclave the filled boxed, and distribute the autoclaved boxed to designated locations.
