Job Summary: The Laboratory Coordinator oversees the day-to-day operations of a science or research lab(s).
Additional Department Summary: This position will manage the cold spray and additive friction stir deposition (AFSD) capabilities in the Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Materials Design Integration (CAMMDI). Ensure that these two, solid state additive manufacturing processes remain in a safe and operational condition. Perform routine maintenance and calibration of the equipment, perform trouble-shooting as required, and interface with equipment manufacturers for maintenance, repairs, and upgrades. Train students and other researchers on the correct and safe operation of the equipment. Conduct research experiments in support of funded research programs. Ensure Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) policies and protocols are followed.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree and four (4) years of laboratory experience; OR bachelor's degree and two (2) years of laboratory experience; OR master's degree and some laboratory experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Due to requirements of the funding source, must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to safely operate complex machinery such as robotics, lasers, thermal spray, welding equipment, CNC mills, or related machining equipment. Ability to train and supervise others using machinery.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with laboratory/industrial safety. Hands-on experience with electrical and/or mechanical systems. Experience with cold spray deposition, thermal spray deposition, friction stir welding, or other welding techniques is highly preferred. Experience with laser systems highly desirable. Experience with driving a forklift is desirable.
