Job Summary

The Department of Urology seeks a highly motivated and experienced individual to
manage one of its Urology Research Laboratories. The primary responsibility of this role is to assist
the Principal Investigator (PI) in overseeing the laboratory's operations, ensuring successful
outcomes in both clinical and bench research projects. Key duties include managing the
recruitment and onboarding of new team members, providing ongoing support to lab staff, ensuring
adequate staffing coverage, and collaborating closely with the PI to develop and implement new
research protocols. This position will also involve setting up and overseeing current and new
projects, managing lab resources, and participating in end-of-year performance evaluations
alongside the PI.

Responsibilities*

Lab Management (50%)

  • Assist with recruitment processes, including drafting job postings, screening resumes,
    conducting initial interviews, and coordinating candidate selection with the PI.
  • Onboard new lab members by conducting orientations, providing necessary training, and
    supplying essential documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Mentor and train gap-year students and undergraduates working in the lab and on research
    studies.
  • Provide support to team members, including coverage for absences or during high workload
    periods.
  • Oversee timekeeping and leave requests to ensure adequate staffing coverage; review and
    approve timesheets for direct and indirect reports.
  • Communicate relevant training and seminar opportunities to team members.
  • Serve as a liaison with other labs and departmental coordinators as needed.
  • Regularly update the PI on ongoing issues, lab needs, and project statuses.
  • Assist in developing agendas for lab meetings and participate in discussions with the PI.
  • Support the PI in conducting annual performance evaluations of lab members.
  • Maintain lab equipment, manage inventory of supplies, and research new equipment
    options and pricing.
  • Disseminate building notifications and updates to the lab team.


Research Project Management (40%)

  • Train new research coordinators on study protocols and procedures.
  • Oversee coordinators managing multiple studies and ensure all studies are compliant and
    progressing as planned.
  • Assist in the initiation of new studies, including preparing Manuals of Procedures (MOP),
    protocols, and informed consent documents.
  • Coordinate the management of incoming specimens and liaise with study sponsors on all
    relevant matters.

    Data Management (10%)
  • Update and maintain the database of collected samples and associated clinical
    information.
  • Develop databases for new studies and ensure data integrity and availability for researchers
    as required.

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in biological sciences or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in research, with a strong background in laboratory and
    project management.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Experience in a supervisory role within a research setting.
  • Experience working with clinical trials and associated regulatory requirements.

Background Screening
