Laboratory Research Specialist

The Department of Surgery is the 3rd largest department within Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM). Job Summary

• Leads research activities and protocol development.
• Maintains equipment, including preventive maintenance, scheduling repairs as needed, service agreement negotiations, trouble shooting equipment malfunctions, and maintaining an active list of vendors to respond to equipment loss.
• Supervises, mentors, and provides training for junior-level staff.
• Prepares summary data reports, and creates and maintains databases for storage and analysis.
• Ensures compliance with all applicable local and federal regulations.
• May design and conduct a wide range of complex experiments.

EDUCATION

Required

• Bachelor's degree in a science related field.

Preferred

• Master's degree in a sciences related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• 3 years of laboratory research experience

Preferred

• Experience working with rodent models investigating neuronal and non neuronal tissue degeneration and regeneration
• Experience preparing and analyzing mouse genetic models, performing behavior and histological analysis
• Experience in immunohistochemistry and molecular biology

Working Conditions / Demands

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Location

Indianapolis, Indiana

This position may be eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.

Advertised Salary

$57,000 - $62,000 per year based on experience.
