About the Center for Biomarker Research and Precision Medicine

The Center for Biomarker Research and Precision Medicine aims to alleviate the tremendous personal, familial, and societal burden of mental illness and substance use disorders by using state-of-the-art technologies to identify molecular markers that can be used to develop new medications and tailor treatment to individual patients. About the Role

The Center for Biomarker Research and Precision Medicine (BPM), at the VCU School of Pharmacy, is seeking a full-time Laboratory Specialist with expertise in molecular biology and genomics to join our research team and conduct lab-technical applications to support BPM's research program.

Key responsibilities
  • Conducting lab technical applications; processing bio-samples; and construction of sequencing libraries
  • Maintenance of the laboratory environment and lab-technical instrumentation
  • Documentation, data evaluation and communication; review and evaluate quality control information
  • Protocol development; develop detailed understanding of every step in the protocols to be able to properly alter and optimize as needed to achieve highest possible quality data
  • Professional development; learn and remain abreast of developments in molecular biology and genetic/genomic techniques; including learning and mastering new lab-technical protocols, techniques, and instrumentation to serve BPM's needs
  • After appropriate training the successful candidate is expected to independently handle and maintain advanced genomics instrumentation including e.g., automated liquid handling robotics, platforms for cell partitioning, cell counting and a broad spectrum of quality control instruments
