Summary

Seeking a highly motivated, responsible, and organized individual to join a research team focused on understanding the genetics and pathogenesis of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease and related disorders. The technician will participate in studies directed by Dr. Joshua Shulman in the Center for Alzheimer's and Neurodegenerative Diseases. Become an active member of a research team investigating neurodegenerative diseases, responsibly provide technical assistance in support of research projects by completing assignments requiring a basic knowledge of fundamental techniques and practices related to neurology and genetics, working under minimal supervision by a higher-level research staff member. Training in specialized research methods will be provided.

Job Duties

• Integrates experimental genetic approaches using both fruit fly (Drosophila) and cell culture models of disease as well as direct study of human subject cohorts.
• Assists members of the research team in the conduct of experiments.
• Works on handling, processing, and banking of human tissue samples, such as preparation and storage of DNA from blood.
• Performs additional duties related to the ongoing research efforts of the laboratory.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent time management, communication and organizational skills are essential to collect, analyze and appropriately document experimental results.
