Summary

Tailor Labs at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a motivated and hard working technician I to perform basic duties associated with the study of microbes and their growth and behavior. The research technician will have some elementary biology courses, solid knowledge of microbiology and molecular biology, be willing to be trained in lab duties associated with bacteriologic techniques, and form a team like atmosphere where collegiality and academic interests are accentuated. The technician will join a highly motivated group of microbiologists searching for microbial genes and functions that can transform and revolutionize medical discovery. The research technician will be surrounded by Ph.D students, postdocs, clinicians and center directors while also learning about related projects on vaccinology, evolution, mutagenesis and drug discovery.

Job Duties

  • Grows bacteria and tests their levels.
  • Isolates and purifies phage.
  • Tests phage and environmental samples for new phages.
  • Makes buffers and reagents.
  • Operates an evolution machine and growth bioreactors.
  • Operates a microbe catching device.
  • Grows libraries of genes and tests for function.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • One year of relevant experience.
