Laboratory Technician, School of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Craniofacial Molecular Biology

Job Summary:
The Department of Oral and Craniofacial Molecular Biology, VCU School of Dentistry is seeking applicants to fill an hourly Laboratory Technician position. In Dr. Harada's lab.

Position Responsibilities:

Assist with maintenance of a research laboratory, including maintaining sufficient supplies of deionized water, washing glassware, autoclaving waste, and maintaining the autoclave and other laboratory equipment. Perform routine experiments in molecular biology. Assist with animal experiments. Ability to accept direction and work well with a pleasant, but diverse group of students, faculty, and other employees is required.

**Hours are flexible and may work up to 29 hours per week.

Required Qualifications:

• A Master degree in Science in Biology
• Must have extensive experience in animal handlings including caretaking and drug administration
• Must have experience in mammalian cell culture
• Ability to follow directions in performing complex procedures
• Computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and use of the internet for research
• Ability to maintain Web-based database and update forms/procedures
• Prior experience working with animals
• Ability to serve as a team member and to continuously refine protocols and procedures for efficiency and effectiveness
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Willingness and self-motivation to perform the required duties
• Demonstrate experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as an employee at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:

• Mechanical aptitude and good organizational skills are preferred
