Location: 100 HEALTH PARK DR, Louisville, 80027

The role you'll contribute:

Responsible for the assessment and management of breastfeeding mothers and babies, particularly, those with problems or concerns. Exercises independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of nursing processes and procedures concerning lactation patient and her infant. Supports training and support of new associates on breastfeeding techniques and standards of care; serves as a subject matter expert to the units in their facility. Will need to demonstrate a developing knowledge and skills relevant to lactation and adult learning principles. Basic knowledge of Adult Learning Principles needed to plan, implement and present/facilitate education for clients and/or hospital staff. Experience demonstrating the competent assessment, treatment, and care of all ages, including, neonates.

  • Assesses the lactating patient's physical, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual needs through observation, interview, review of records and clinical data.
  • Evaluates patient's response and intervenes in a timely manner to ensure optimal patient outcome.
  • Manages lactation issues and utilizes appropriate resources to solve problems for inpatients (OB, NICU, and PEDS populations) and for outpatients as needed.
  • Assists adoptive mothers wanting to breastfeed.
  • Coordinates the support for breast-feeding of separated mother/infants.


Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:
  • Associate Degree in Nursing or a Nursing Diploma
  • Three years nursing experience
  • RN State of Employment or RN license from a participating state in the National Licensure Compact
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant
