Responsibilities

The Lactation Consultant-RN demonstrates professional development and clinical competency; applying the caring processes of the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care, the RN has the responsibility to develop, implement and evaluate the plan of care to plan, implement, and evaluate breastfeeding needs encompassing age specific criteria for neonates through adult. The Lactation Consultant-RN addresses breastfeeding educational needs for patients, families, and other health care providers, manages patient care assignments as well as other organizational tasks related to patient and unit operations, acts in a clinical leadership role, applies knowledge of growth and development in patient interactions, and performs other related duties. This individual supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members, and focuses on patient and family comforts, education and satisfaction. The RN applies his/her educational and professional experiences in the delivery of quality care and mentoring/precepting staff.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Diploma Nursing
  • One of: CLC or IBCLC - Must obtain within two years of hire.
  • Registered Nurse (KY)

Desired:
  • One year in a clinical setting
  • Bachelor Degree Nursing
