The Campus Rec Summer Temp is responsible for performing operational tasks for respective Campus Recreation programs and facilities. They will provide excellent customer service, maintain facility and asset cleanliness, ensure that all policies are followed by guests and participants, and ensure all safety measures are being implemented.

The LaHaye Rec Summer Lifeguard is responsible for performing operational tasks and maintaining cleanliness at both the LaHaye Rec and Fit Aquatic Center and David's Place Pool. They will ensure that all policies are followed by guests and that all safety measures are being implemented at both facilities. This is a temporary position from May 1 - August 21!

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for ensuring customer safety, facility cleanliness, effective operations, and a high level of customer service, at the LaHaye Rec and Fit Aquatic Center and David's Place Pool, during operational hours.
  • Assist in the maintenance and adherence of risk management procedures and policies at the LaHaye Rec and Fit Aquatic Center and David's Place Pool, ensuring compliance with university policies.
  • Responsible for conducting chemical checks and maintaining physical fitness standards.
  • Responsible for remaining up to date with American Red Cross lifeguard rescue techniques and perform as necessary.
  • Effectively communicate any issues or customer complaints to the Aquatics Manager on shift.
  • Responsible to ensure clean and organized indoor facilities through stocking supplies and maintaining locker rooms and public spaces.
  • Responsible to assist with maintenance of equipment and the LaHaye Rec and Fit Aquatic Center and David's Place Pool, including regular cleaning.
  • Regularly assist with events and operations during evening, nights or weekend hours.
  • Attend all required Campus Recreation trainings and meetings.
  • Perform all other tasks assigned by the Aquatics Coordinator to assist with Campus Recreation operations and programming.
  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's mission.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities


QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current Lifeguard Certification
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
  • Availability to work a variety of different shifts (weekends, early morning, afternoon, late night)


Preferred Qualifications
  • Current Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification
  • One year of lifeguarding experience
  • Experience in a customer service position
  • Desire to pursue recreation management as a career field

Physical and Sensory Abilities
  • Frequently required to sit or stand in one location for extended periods to perform tasks assigned to varying positions.

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move around the facility
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
  • Regularly lift 40 or fewer pounds.
  • Regularly swim at least 300 yards
  • Regularly swim with at least 10lbs. of weight
  • Regularly swim to bottom of pool
  • Regularly tread water without use of hands and arms for at least 3 minutes
  • Ability to jump from an elevated position on land into pool


WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment
  • The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position will vary depending on facility need. Employee can be assigned to an outside position that will deal with extreme temperatures and weather conditions. Employees may also be scheduled in a humid indoor aquatics facility during a shift.
