Performs inspections to identify exotic plant problems on County property. Selects and applies herbicides or biological agents to control exotic plants within aquatic, wetland and upland habitats; determines chemical application method. Removes exotic plants from County property using herbicides, hand/power tools and heavy equipment; operates trucks with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of over 26,001 lbs., All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), boats and firefighting equipment. Constructs and maintains fire lines, fence lines, roads and public use facilities; participates in prescribed burns.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of six (6) months of experience in laboring work.

Necessary Special Requirements: Must obtain a Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) Public Applicator License with certification in Aquatic Pest Control, Natural Areas Weed Management, Ornamental and Turf Pest Control, and Right-of-Way Pest Control within six (6) months of hire.

PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE WITH: Landscape maintenance involving identifying and removing invasive exotic plants; prescribed burns (must specify on application); evaluating and interpreting technical data; operating light/heavy gas-powered equipment (e.g., chainsaws, weed-eaters, blowers, ATVs, spray rigs, front-end loaders, farm tractors, small boats or skid-steer loaders) (must specify on application). Also desirable: Current RUP Public Applicator License with certification in Aquatic Pest Control, Natural Areas Weed Management, Ornamental and Turf Pest Control and Right-of-Way Pest Control; valid FL Class B CDL with Air Brakes and Tanker Endorsements.

SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION SUBJECT TO RANDOM DRUG TESTING. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Valid Florida Driver's License and PBC Risk Management Department driving history approval prior to appointment. Must obtain a FL Class B CDL permit with Air Brakes and Tanker Endorsement within 90 days of hire and obtain a FL Class B CDL within 180 days of hire. Respiratory screen/chest x-ray required and Hearing Loss Test required for selected candidate.
