The Street Transportation Department is seeking a motivated Instrument technician. There is one vacancy with the Design and Construction Management Divisions. This position performs technical land survey work of average difficulties. As part of a survey crew, the Instrument Technician will operate global navigation satellite system based electronic measuring and data collection devices, and other survey instruments in the performance of land survey work.

The work will take place in various locations around the City of Phoenix and in different outdoor conditions. This position will work under the direction of a Registered Land Surveyor and also work along other survey technical professionals completing construction staking, boundary surveying, and other types of survey data collection.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and their applications.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to design and construction surveying activities.

SALARY

Pay Range: $22.08 to $37.76 per hour.

Hiring Range: $22.08 to $26.83 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • NSPS/ACSM Certified Survey Technician - Level 2 or two years of experience in survey engineering, including one year of field experience providing a knowledge of survey equipment and survey crew activities.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • CST Level II (Field) certification or equivalent.
  • Experience working with Total Stations and Data Collectors utilizing standardized field codes and the basics of GPS.
