The Health Program Specialist II (HPS II) serves as CDPH's Latino Health Equity Lead. The HPS II will serve broadly as a subject matter expert for CDPH leading activities that include relationship building, project guidance, direction and oversight, training, coordination, and technical assistance to support CDPH's outreach to Latino communities. The Latino Health Equity Lead will act as a bridge between programs within CDPH and externally between CDPH and other partners. The Latino Health Equity Lead will provide technical consultation to support the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of projects and activities designed to continue to advance health equity among Latino communities.

The ideal candidate will be a trusted messenger and possess knowledge, passion, and experience working with Latino communities and the providers that serve them. They will carry empathy and understanding of cultural protocols when working with different community groups in order to support CDPH in recognizing diverse ways of knowing about health and healing. Organizational skills and flexibility to the changing needs and demands of the program are preferred.

Telework Information

The amount of telework permitted is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change, consistent with CDPH's Telework Program. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.

Business travel may be required , and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquarters office subject to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the designated headquarters office will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

This position is in the California Department of Public Health's (CDPH) Office of Health Equity (OHE), Advancing Community Equity (ACE) Branch. The ACE Branch mission is to support, integrate, and enhance health and racial equity across the COVID-19 response, recovery, and beyond by ensuring state and local strategies and interventions take an equity-first approach; serving as subject matter experts on initiatives impacting underserved and marginalized populations; and forming long-term, strategic partnerships with external stakeholders to enhance community engagement and outreach.
