Duties

U.S. Secret Service is seeking retired (CSRS/FERS) individuals to support our integrated mission and immediately impart their knowledge and experience to the current workforce. If re-employed under a Dual Compensation Hiring Authority with an OPM approved salary off-set waiver granted to the Secret Service, annuitants are able to earn their full salary and their full annuity without penalty.

OPM Dual Compensation Waiver Authority

  • Earn Full Annuity and Full Salary
  • Earn Annual Leave and Sick Leave
  • Work Full-time, Part-Time, or an Intermittent work schedule (determined by supervisor)
  • Receive Overtime (if on a full-time schedule)
  • Annuitants receiving a dual comp waiver are not eligible to contribute to TSP or make contributions to retirement
  • Individuals appointed before December 31,2024 may continue their employment until their not-to-exceed date is reached
  • The Dual Compensation Hiring Authority (approved salary off-set waiver) is a term non-status appointment in the competitive service for retired annuitants that may not exceed four (4) years


The selectee will serve as Law Enforcement Specialist (Instructor Judgment and Tactics) in the Office of Training, James J. Rowley Training Center, Glynco GA. Typical work assignments include:

  • Coordinating, developing, and instructing investigative and protective tactics related to the practical application of Law Enforcement Agency Use of Force and Firearms Policies.
  • Coordinating, developing, and instructing reality-based training and evaluating the application of sound tactics and reasonable actions.

  • This position requires more than a moderate degree of physical exertion on part of the incumbent. This includes lifting, kneeling, crouching, and carrying medium size packages or containers. Work may also involve physical exertion within a training environment and operating in various weather conditions.
  • Travel to field locations to coordinate training activities may be involved. The work is, primarily sedentary, but may require some travel, walking, bending, and carrying lightweight items, such as briefcases, notebooks, and work papers.
  • The normal workplace includes a classroom or office, and inside/outside training facilities. Position duties will require exposure to varying climate and environment conditions, both cold and warm weather conditions and/or exposure to high levels of noise and dangerous substances.


Qualifications

Specialized experience: You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $98,496) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level performing duties such as: providing instruction and technical advice in tactical areas such as close quarter battle (interior techniques), motorcade counter ambush deployment techniques, urban and rural tactics; applying knowledge and skills pertaining to law enforcement based firearms training, judgment and tactics training, proper use of force, tactical operations training; identifying, evaluating and correcting student deficiencies to achieve training objectives.

Firearms Skills Assessment Test: You must pass an initial firearms proficiency or qualification course of fire with an 80% score which equates to 80 points out of a possible of 100 points. The qualification course is the standard 50-round course of fire used in the Firearms Instructor Training Course (FITC). You will be given two (2) attempts to pass this course with a minimum score of 80.
