Job Description

Now hiring for positions in emergency preparedness, public health preparedness, cybersecurity policy and planning, COVID-19 recovery support, exercise and training, and other related projects. The Center for Health and Homeland Security (CHHS) at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law is now accepting applications for Law & Policy Analysts or Senior Law & Policy Analysts (full-time non-tenure track academic positions with a payroll title of Research Fellow, Research Assistant, or Research Associate depending on education and experience).



CHHS has a commitment to supporting state and local emergency management agencies, health departments, educational institutions, and other government agencies in their emergency preparedness and public health activities. CHHS has been supporting local jurisdictions throughout the region on COVID-19 planning and recovery, in addition to preparing for other natural and man-made disasters.



We are now hiring for positions supporting Montgomery and Prince George's counties, and Baltimore City. Most positions will include a combination of reporting in-person and telework.

Essential Duties:



Candidates will support CHHS in working with state and local emergency management agencies, health departments, departments of transportation, and departments of public works on legal research, analysis, and writing; emergency preparedness and public health preparedness; response; and recovery. Candidates may also work with educational institutions, hospitals, and private business on emergency planning, training, and exercise activities. Candidates will be expected to work both independently and within a team to support client needs.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • JD required. Willing to consider applicants within final semester prior to graduation
  • Strong legal research and writing skills
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred:
    • Emergency management planning
    • Public health planning
    • Cybersecurity planning
    • Exercise development

This is a full-time grant-funded salaried position.



Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience, plus full benefits package including paid leave and health insurance. Retirement contributions dependent on experience and level of employment.
