Why does the job exist?

The New Mexico Museum of Art/Vladem is seeking a Lead front desk cashier who will provide clerical, cashiering and other support. The lead cashier is a key front-line staff who welcomes visitors and groups, sells tickets, troubleshoots and resolves complaints and problems. He/she will also play a key role in communications by answering the museum's phone line, notifying all staff of their guests' arrival and processing mail. He/she will be required to provide customer service in a professional manner. The position will also be responsible for assisting in maintaining accurate and current school and tour schedules. The cashier generates revenue for the museum following admission guidelines. The position is responsible for collecting and daily accounting of revenue and attendance. The candidate will need to be comfortable with computers in order to resolve problems and produce the necessary reports on visitor attendance and revenue.

How does it get done?

The Cashier is responsible for delivering quality customer service by providing a lead role in assessing and meeting customer needs by providing quality service. The Cashier will provide technical support for computerized ticketing. The Cashier will provide information to museum staff and groups. The Lead Cashier will create and disseminate attendance reports as needed; The Lead Cashier will assist with communications; answer incoming phone calls and provide requested information, transfer calls, and relay accurate and complete messages; make announcements over the public announcement system for shows, Museum events, and locating lost visitors.

Who are the customers?

This position serves residents of the State of New Mexico; staff and patrons of the Museum of Art; and staff of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has experience handling money and maintaining a cash drawer; one (1) or more years of experience working directly with members of the public of all ages, including large groups or organizations; experience working with a ticketing system selling tickets, particularly Tessitura; and experience dealing with stressful situations that require making quick, logical decisions for either the benefit of the public or the organization.

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or Equivalent and six (6) months of work experience in office administration and/or customer service. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office-like setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive computer and phone usage. Use of cleaning supplies for front desk. Requires overtime for special events and other activities within the Museum. Evening, weekend and holiday hours are scheduled, and availability for emergencies is required.
