GENERAL SUMMARY

The SLP Lead Clinical Educator (CE) is a state licensed and ASHA-certified speech language pathologist who coordinates instructional pro bono experiences for students, clients, and clinical educators. The Lead CE educates, mentors, and supervises students performing client evaluations, screenings, and treatment to patients (adult and pediatric) attending the USAHS pro bono telehealth clinic. CEs for the telehealth clinic review all clinical notes for each client and assesses the clinical performance and documentation skills of students. He/she contributes to and attends any scheduled Clinical Educator training opportunities offered by the program. The SLP Lead CE will coordinate with students, other CEs, program faculty Manager of Pro Bono and Telehealth Initiatives, and the Clinical Innovation Specialist regarding student placement and scheduling. The qualified candidate must have an entry-level master's degree or higher along with appropriate state license and ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence. At least 2 years of hands-on experience is required in a patient care setting in the profession, and completion of the ASHA requirement for supervision of graduate interns. The successful candidate will have excellent oral communication and organizational skills, be responsive to adult student needs, and be able to work collaboratively in a team environment.

This is a full time, salaried position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinates with students, other CEs, the Manager of Pro Bono and Telehealth Initiatives, and the Clinical Innovation Specialist regarding students placement and scheduling.
  • Contributes to trainings needed for CEs.
  • Organizes and maintains materials/equipment/subscriptions orders as needed.
  • Teaches and models clinical communication, professionalism, and collaboration.
  • Interacts frequently with students to provide direction, guidance, and feedback.
  • Assists with administration, scoring, written reporting of assessments and therapy sessions.
  • Communicates with students and families on assessment and treatment activities.
  • Monitors student performance and progress with clinical skills development; provides feedback; and facilitates student participation in learning activities.
  • Assesses student performance on assessment, intervention, interaction and personal qualities.
  • Supervises, assesses, and provides feedback to students regarding proper protocols for clinical documentation
  • Reports student grades at end of term to the MS-SLP program.
  • Communicates with MS-SLP faculty to ensure consistent content delivery, student concerns, and to recommend changes for upcoming semesters.
  • Participates in monthly meetings with the MS-SLP program as needed.
  • Meets weekly with the Director of Clinical Instruction
  • May lead and/or debrief student participation in clinical simulation activities.
  • Serves as student-to-university liaison regarding the USAHS Pro Bono SLP Teletherapy Clinic.
  • Upholds student and faculty handbook policies.
  • Provides direct supervision and instruction for students treating clients in the USAHS Pro Bono SLP Teletherapy Clinic.
  • Provides feedback and ongoing assessment of administrative functions of and processes to increase the efficiency of the USAHS Pro Bono SLP Teletherapy Clinic.
  • Coordinates the schedules of Clinical Educators (CEs), clients, and students to schedule therapy times for clients for therapy.
  • Engages in routine rounding with the SLP CEs to problem solve issues that arise in the teletherapy clinic and provide support for their clinical education to their students and identify students who needed additional support or action plans for success.
  • Leads monthly CE meetings to improve processes, provide supervision training for CEs, collaborate with the academic faculty, and foster student success.
  • Leads teletherapy orientations and clinical skill teaching modules to instructor all students on foundational clinical skills to demonstrate with their clients.
  • Serves as a liaison between students/CEs and Director of SLP Clinical Instruction.
  • Works with the USAHS Pro Bono Clinic Manager and Clinical Specialist of the USAHS Center of Innovative Clinical Practice to oversee the EMR system for clinic with students, CEs and faculty.
  • Promotes professionalism by modeling such behaviors.
  • Self-evaluates clinical supervision performance; sets goals for improvement in collaboration with program leadership and faculty.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Master's degree or higher

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed from your home location. Work involves operation of personal computer equipment for six to eight hours daily and includes physical demands associated with a traditional office setting, e.g., walking, standing, communicating, and other physical functions as necessary.
