Lead Cook

Transitions Healthcare Gettysburg is look qualified individual who can perform the essential job functions of this position with or without accommodation. The individual's primary purpose in this position is to be responsible for food preparation and related duties for residents, clients, visitors and staff within the facility.

Essential Job Functions:

- Reviews the menu in preparation for performing duties to ensure timely preparation according to the recipes provided.

- Prepares and serves the meals to residents, clients, visitors and staff.

- Monitors food quality prior to meal service.

- Takes necessary steps to ensure compliance with all regulations regarding sanitary food preparation such as cleaning tools and equipment, ensuring proper food temperature, etc.

- Prepares therapeutic meals as prescribed by medical professional.

- Attend in-service/educational prog rams in accordance with Company and regulatory requirements.

- Ability to push/pull/lift equipment weighing in excess of 50 pounds using proper techniques and with assistance as necessary. Be able to sit, bend, and stoop. Stand and/or walk for six (6) hours or more daily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.

- Position responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule, overtime and evening or weekend hours to meet facility's needs

- Ability to read, write and understand the English language.

- Assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

- Meet general health requirements set forth by the policies of the Company, which may include a med ical and physical examinations.

Perform other duties as directed by Director of Food Services and the Administrator

- Oversee kitchen operations when dietary manager is not in the kitchen.

- Ensuring that the kitchen meets sanitation and safety standards.

- Ensuring the kitchen has enough inventory and reporting to the manager when an item is needed to be ordered.

- Monitoring that the residents are getting the proper portions.

- Is the supervisor when Dietary manager is not in the kitchen and is able to follow up with disciplines as needed.

- Assisting with menu development.

- Ordering supplies when needed.

- Ensures that the kitchen is cleaned, that all duties of the staff have been completed, and that the kitchen is opened and closed occurring to procedures.

- Will take the call offs form the staff, attempt to replace the call offs and may have to pick up open shifts.

- Notify the Dietary manger of any concerns on the kitchen.

- Comply with Employee Handbook, Facility Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, comply with Resident Rights, comply with Resident Abuse/Abuse Reporting regarding abuse, neglect and misappropriation, Universal Precautions, Exposure Control Plans, Safety, Hazards Communication, Fire & Disaster and Evacuation, HIPAA/Confidentiality policies and procedures regarding resident and facility records/information, and all other Company policies and procedures.

- Be organized and detailed, efficient, and accurate in work performance.

- Possess and display proper communication skills which exude patience, self -discipline, and customer service

Function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.

Possess and display a genuine caring for, and interest in, maintaining and enhancing a positive physical, emotional, and psychosocial environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally unstable, and/or volatile residents of the Company.

Minimum Qualifications :

High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required. Previous experience in quantity cooking and experience in long term care or institutional dietary setting preferred.
