Purpose of Position
To function as the department liaison/contact, serve as a facilitator/resource person to ensure effective department operation, to actively support and promote departmental and hospital initiatives to ensure patient satisfaction and perform all duties of the CT Scan Technologist.

Description
  1. Acts as a resource person when questions or problems arise.
  2. Assists with the operation of the CT Department, secretarial and scheduling areas ensuring effective daily department operations, and participate in the staffing process to ensure adequate staffing.
  3. Mentors, trains and orients employees on procedures and operations of the department.
  4. Communicates clearly to manager, staff, internal and external customers.
  5. Attends monthly department staff meetings.
  6. Perform computed tomography scanning procedures at a technical level requiring constant attention to technical detail, requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiologic diagnosis
    • Operates control console for patient's scan
    • Selects proper imaging techniques and protocols
    • Operates various peripheral hardware and equipment
  7. Maintain, set-up and adjust equipment, checking calibration and recalibrating as necessary.
  8. Positions patient on examination table and adjusts immobilization devices as required to obtain optimum views of specified area of the body requested by physician as determined by department policy and procedure observing all health and safety precautions, quality assurance and infection control standards.
  9. Receive and review requests for radiologic studies. Provide explanation of procedures and answer pertinent questions of patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.
  • Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations and procedures to insure safety and comfort while preparing for and while undergoing computerized tomography procedures..
  • Assist physician and/or nurse with monitoring and treatment of patients during procedures.
  • Record all required information to provide permanent records of significant and/or functional anatomical or pathologic data obtained.

  1. Apply principles of radiographic protection using beam restriction devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors, to minimize radiation to patients and staff.
  2. Applies ionizing radiation to patients according to established practices and procedures.
  3. Coordinate work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency using and/or modifying established procedures, to assure timely completion of work in conformance with department policies and procedures
    • Evaluates images for technical quality
    • Maintains proficiency in PACS system and is able to perform as a Super User
    • Maintain adequate radiology records to assure proper identification
    • Assist physician with administration of radiographic contrast media or its direct administration if trained and sanctioned by the radiologist

  1. Maintain a thorough knowledge of departmental and Hospital policies and Procedures as they pertain to the job, including the fire and disaster plans. Comply with Infection Control policies and procedures
  2. Participates in activities which promote professional self-growth and development; meeting minimum requirements for continuing education as directed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and Massachusetts State Licensing.
  3. Maintain an ethical relationship with patients, physicians, personnel and guests and insures patient confidentiality at all times.
  4. Performs other work related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Graduate of an American Medical Association (AMA) Accredited Radiography Program.
  • Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Valid Massachusetts State License in Radiation Control
  • C urrently registered in Cat Scan ( CT ) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board ( NMTBC ) in Cat Scan( CT )
  • 3 years' experience as a Radiologic Technologist OR 1 year experience as a Radiologic Technologist at CCH OR 1 year current (within the last 5 years) CT Tech experience
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification required and must maintain certification
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to work under pressure
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to triage work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain harmonious and cooperative relations with fellow employees, medical staff, patients and guests and serves effectively as part of the department team in performing professional service to patients
