Fleet Services By Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Lead Fleet Auto Maintenance Technician will be responsible for performing inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, advanced mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics and other duties as assigned focusing on exceptional customer satisfaction in a cost-effective manner. The Lead Fleet Auto Maintenance Technician is heavily relied upon for advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs working individually or in a team environment. Achieve a mastery in majority of technical disciplines and is relied upon to mentor and teach other technicians in a manner most conducive to different learning style. Lead Fleet Auto Maintenance Technician has multiple interactions with Shop Leader to make valuable decisions related to the technician performance/potential, shop safety, and efficiencies. Performs duties of Shop Leader in their absence. A successful Lead Fleet Auto Maintenance Technician complies with all company policies and achieves high level performance metrics.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Always follows, complies, and remains up-to-date with safe operating practices and procedures.
  • Independently determine parts required for each job and order using various means provided.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of equipment including, but not limited to the following: Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Air conditioning systems, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Assist in cleanup at the end of each day for tools, parts, and equipment.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair aftermarket equipment in vehicles.
  • Performs maintenance and repair of different classes of vehicles or specialized trucks by troubleshooting complex hydraulic systems, diesel systems, gas systems, generators, electrical systems, hybrids, battery electric systems, and on-board computer systems.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs.
  • Support Fleet Auto Maintenance Technicians I/II/Sr with diagnosis, technical issues, training, and obtaining parts.
  • Mentor Technician I/II/Sr on best practices, techniques, time management and prioritization of activities.
  • Mentor and teach other Technicians in the Shop in a manner most conducive to their particular learning style
  • Ability to Lead and develop other Technicians by providing ongoing feedback.
  • Assist Shop Leader with Quality Control Inspections, conducting meetings, technical training sessions, safety checks, and safety inspections.
  • Work with a high degree of independence and help manage workflow for other technicians.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, using sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
  • Applies knowledge that is acquired through formal training or on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job.
  • Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs, providing information or assistance, resolving their problems, or satisfying their expectations.
  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, making effective judgments as to prioritizing work related activities and time allocations.
  • Assist other Fleet Auto Maintenance Technicians with diagnosis and repairs.
  • Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty and keep commitments. Behave in a consistent manner, keeping sensitive information confidential and adhering to ethical and professional standards.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance ("PM"), DOT Inspections, light repairs, and diagnostics in a shop environment.
  • Based upon certification levels, perform various repairs and maintenance which may include: OBDII systems, brake components, tires, tune-ups, suspension, aerial lifts, electrical systems, interior/exterior components, and aftermarket equipment in vehicles.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diagnostic tools, welding equipment, lift and jacks.
  • Document according to company standards and upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and all findings observed on Repair Orders ("RO") using company-issued devices.
  • Accurately complete DOT, PM, inspection forms and all other forms of documentation in timely fashion.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and be able to work within.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for the repairs to be performed.
  • Communicate with Shop Leader and support team to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers and/or discuss RO findings notes.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies, and federal, local, and state regulations, to include OSHA, EPA, ANSI, and DOT.
  • Applies knowledge that is acquired through formal training or on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job.
  • Participate and complete all-in company required safety training.
  • Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures.
Education
  • High School Diploma/GED and 7 years' experience. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline and 5 years' experience; or 9 years' experience in a related field
Experience
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as an Automotive Technician on light, medium, or heavy-duty vehicle repair or equivalent combination of technical education/certifications/skill/experiences.
  • Safe Driver's needed; valid driver's license required
  • Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance, to make repairs or perform maintenance services.
  • Valid DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain one prior to employment or within 72 hrs. of hire.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to determine the type of tools and equipment needed.
  • Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance, to make repairs or perform maintenance services.
  • Must continue training for technology and fleet changes as they occur.
  • Must continue to train on OEM offered training sites to understand and stay fluent with technology changes.
  • Must have a working knowledge of DOT and CDL requirements for qualifying light and medium truck applications.
  • Understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods of time; ability to perform moderately heavy laboring work.
  • Ability to exert oneself physically over long periods of time without tiring, which may include performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to accurately judge which of several objects is closer or farther away from the observer, or the distance between an object and the observer.
  • Ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate information (for example, facts, ideas, or messages) in a succinct and organized manner. Engages in effective two-way communication with individuals and groups.
