This person will provide direction, development, and guidance to staff. Reviews daily, edits and performs necessary updates. Reports any applicable updates, corrections, or system concerns. Maintains pro-active approach with addressing and implementing changes impacting various processes within Patient Access Department. Leads, trains, and motivates staff to achieve goals and objectives. Assists Manager with daily operations and department schedule.

Job Duties
  • Provides direction, development and guidance to staff. Reviews daily, edits and performs necessary updates. Reports any applicable updates, corrections or system concerns. Maintains pro-active approach with addressing and implementing changes impacting various processes within Patient Access Department.
  • Leads, trains and motivates staff to achieve goals and objectives. Assists Manager with daily operations and department schedule. Assures staff coverage for all shifts.
  • Assumes supervisory decision making in absence of Director and Manager.
  • Identifies and obtains all essential information pertaining to intake, verification and pre-certification of applicable patient accounts with 98% accuracy rate. Revises information in computer system as needed. Documents pertinent information and efforts in computer system based upon department documentation standards. Maintains department productivity standards.
  • Verifies and determines insurance coverage and benefits for phases of transplant. Inputs necessary information into database. Works with Case Manager if separate letter of agreement is needed.
  • Coordinates with Case Management and/or physican's office regarding any additional information needed on their part to obtain pre-authorization.
  • Reverifies emergency room, observation, surgical observation and day surgery patients when converted to inpatient status and initiates verification and pre-certification.
  • Coordinates with Financial Counselor to identify funding source, additional information needed to secure accurate third party billing and/or patient financial responsibility and revises system as necessary.
  • Works in collaborative manner with peers and other hospital departments. Attends meetings and actively participates.
  • Assists managers in timely and accurate manner. Distributes and completes relevant departmental reports. Tracks key performance indicators as designed by department Director.
  • Maintains current policies and procedures. Assures compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations and assists Director with JCAHO preparation.
  • Completes special projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience and Education
  • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience;
  • or two years of college and three to five (3-5) years of collection or financial counselor, verification, or patient access/scheduling experience.
