The position of Lead Interdisciplinary Scientist falls within the 0401/0403/1320 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-13, you must meet Time-in-Grade requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 06/18/2024.

This position requires a degree or completion of specific courses in order to meet the basic education requirement. TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENT: Applicants musthave 52 weeks at the GS-12 or higher.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience directly related to the position to be filled which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, and can be demonstrated thorough knowledge of science, laws and regulations of the Agency.
GS-13: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at least equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service which includes interpreting and evaluating results of analysis to determine the validity and scientific significance and to ensure all necessary information is obtained; participating in determining the analytical instrument and equipment needs of the laboratory; critiquing analytical packages received from private laboratories and endorses reviews made by other members of the team; and incorporating safety related issues and environmental concerns into the conduct of scientific activities.
There is no education substitution at the GS-13 level.

- Applies a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze and improve team effectiveness.
- Interprets and evaluates results of analysis to determine the validity and scientific significance and to ensure all necessary information is obtained.
- Responsible for ensuring that the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated and integrated into the team's strategies, goals, objectives, and work; communicates to the team milestones.
- Provides advice concerning methodology problems encountered in the analysis of novel and complex samples to scientists in other Federal agencies, state organizations and private industry.
- Prepares reports and maintains records of work accomplishments and supporting information.

- Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; or
- Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
For GS-0403, Microbiologist:
- Degree: microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent; or
- Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
For GS-1320, Chemist:
- Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics; or
- Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENT: Applicants musthave 52 weeks at the GS-12 or higher.
