The Role
We are seeking an energetic and engaging Lead Technician to lead a team of QC Lab Technicians for our quality control laboratory at Tesla's new lithium refinery in Corpus Christi, TX. The person will exercise exceptional people management, communication, and technical skills to conduct sample testing, coordinate lab tasks, and interact with the production and developmental team on the shift. The proven track record of agility in responding to quality related issues and working with the manufacturing team to maintain the control of product quality is critical to this position. The person is expected to bring the best performance out of each of technicians on the team.



Responsibilities
  • Comply with company Regulations and Policies while promoting the safety culture in the lab
  • Work with EHS on compliance, waste management, MOC and chemical hygiene related activities of the lab
  • Manage the workflow and track analysis status for all incoming samples to ensure quick turnaround
  • Perform sample analysis, materials characterization, and lab equipment (ICP, IC, Titration, PSA, XRD, XRF etc.) troubleshooting to ensure smooth lab operation
  • Develop test schedule and assign tasks to the lab team for each day/shift
  • Provide training to qualify new lab technicians
  • Optimize the test method and lab activities to improve test turnaround and operational efficiency
  • Maintain clean lab space via 5S principles
  • Conduct and supervise the completion of Chemical, Physical, and Electrochemical Characterization of the submitted samples
  • Manage the LIMS operation in the lab through integration of lab equipment and different manufacturing applications
  • Coordinate and communicate with production and other stakeholders to provide better analytical supports
  • Document and record data in the designated database for team access and easy reference
  • Standardize the lab waste management process including waste handling, storage and disposal
  • Streamline the chemical and consumable ordering with focus on OPEX savings and uninterrupted operation
  • Drive the calibration and maintenance program for all the QC lab equipment
  • Bring new ideas to increase productivity, reduce cost and minimize waste


Requirements
  • B.S. in engineering or science or equivalent
  • At least 4 years of experience in a Manufacturing Quality Control environment
  • Experience of leading team in a fast-paced industrial setting
  • Strong competency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Demonstrate meticulous organizational and data management skills
  • Strong sense of safety and be able to work independently or with others
  • Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal
